Instructors
Monica St. Angelo
A former dancer, Monica St. Angelo received the majority of her dance training at the Kansas City Ballet School and at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center in New York City. She has taught dance for a variety of organizations, including Grinnell College, Kansas City Ballet, and Grinnell Area Arts Council. When Monica began studying yoga, she discovered that it required the same internal mind-body connection as dance, but that it was paired with a greater physical and emotional ease and openness. Yoga helped crystallize her belief that movement is a powerful tool not only for physical well-being, but for personal growth and transformation. She has taught yoga since 2005 and completed a 200-hour training with James Miller. She continues her yoga education through weekends and workshops with teachers such as Max Strom, Desiree Rumbaugh, and Seane Corn, and is a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher.
Jenny Zink
Jenny found an interest in yoga in the early 90′s. As you can imagine, yoga was scarce in central Kansas and that Jane Fonda workout yoga tape didn’t really do much good. After several years, lots of different yoga classes, and many towns, Jenny found a strong teacher and developed a good personal Ashtanga inspired practice in Hays, Kansas. Moving to Grinnell allowed Jenny to really focus on a personal practice and explore several different styles of yoga, one of her favorites being Anusara. Jenny became certified as a Hatha yoga instructor four years ago. Jenny’s style is a blend of all of her yoga experience, creating flowing classes that (hopefully) inspire fun, laughter, and a challenge to the body.
Andrea Magermans
Andrea is currently an assistant professor of French at Grinnell College. She began practicing yoga in Madison, Wisconsin, where it provided her with a much-needed release from her busy graduate student mind. She continues to appreciate yoga’s focus on remaining present. In her classes, Andrea aims to challenge and inspire her students as she guides them to a state of balance. She trained in Hatha Yoga with James Miller in Iowa City and received her Yoga Alliance 200-hour certification in October 2011.
